Audivi serves as Detroit’s professional vocal ensemble. In that capacity, Audivi presents concerts which involve anywhere from 7 to 90 singers. The core touring ensemble consists of 13 singers who rehearse each summer to prepare for the coming year’s performances. Individual singers occasionally must miss performances and Audivi hires professional singers to replace them. Audivi also presents concerts with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, which require a different type of vocal production than the intimate chamber ensemble sound. Audivi does not rehearse regularly but instead works on a project-based schedule. A typical project might involve several consecutive evenings with three rehearsals and one or two performances. Occasionally, core members must move on or miss individual performances, and Audivi regularly considers professional singers to fill in.

Audivi invites all interested singers to audition online by sending recordings of solo singing, a description of your choral & vocal background — résumé appreciated, but not required — and references from other professional singers and conductors. Most of Audivi’s singers have built a reputation through other choral work in the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas, primarily with churches, community choirs, and opera choruses. Audivi seeks soloists who can also thrive in a choral setting. Due to Audivi’s schedule, singers should be available to attend several evening commitments in the Detroit or Ann Arbor areas during concert weeks. A stipend is offered for all projects.
