Soprano Karen Cook is active as a choral artist with ensembles across the country. She sings regularly with the Berwick Chorus of the Oregon Bach Festival, the Spoleto Festival USA Chorus, the Baroque on Beaver Festival, Audivi, Beyond, Choral Artists of Michigan, Detroit Concert Choir, ProArteOHIO, sounding light, Vox GR, Toledo Opera, and the Mariners' Church of Detroit Choir. She has also performed with the Dallas Choral Festival, Knoxville Choral Society, Knoxville Chamber Chorale, Taylor Festival Chorus, Tennessee Chamber Chorus, The Union, 21v, and Knoxville Opera. In addition, she has had the privilege of working with the British ensemble Voces8 as one of their US scholars.
Karen is frequently sought after as a concert soloist and has been featured in performances including Bach's Magnificat and St. John Passion, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, Haydn’s Paukenmesse, Purcell’s Te Deum and Jubilate, and Schubert's Mass in G. She is principal soprano at the Baroque on Beaver Festival where she has performed as soloist in numerous works such as Bach’s Christ lag in Todes Banden, Fauré’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Upcoming engagements include J.M. Haydn’s Missa sub titulo Sancti Leopoldi, Bach’s Mass in b minor, and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore.
Karen earned her Master of Music in Voice Performance from Eastern Michigan University and lives in Ypsilanti, MI with her husband, Matt, and eight other ladies: one dog, six chickens, and a bearded dragon.
